Matt Bonner’s New Balance Shoes Blow The Hell Up

Talking shoes.

Last night, Matt Bonner’s New Balance shoes blew the hell up.

With about 10 minutes left in the second quarter, the bottom of Bonner’s NB basketball shoes ripped off and started talking. From the screen captured images CounterKicks took, it appears the glue which keeps the sole intact with the rest of the shoe let loose and resulted in Bonner making an intentional foul on the Memphis Grizzlies’ Zach Randolph to stop play.

Bonner said after the game:

“I’ve been hoping Converse would come through with a shoe deal, but they haven’t, so I just kind of wear whatever. I’ve been wearing Converse and throwing in some New Balance, but they did not come through for me tonight.”

No, they did not.

Also equally hilarious are the various reactions by the San Antonio Spurs bench. Nike endorser Tony Parker with the “Are you serious, dog?” look. And Richard Jefferson masks a smirk and shutters his eyes in disbelief.

Check out the full, sequential ordered images below of Matt Bonner’s New Balance shoes blowing up.

Now there’s a freak incident, the entire sole disconnects. Glad he didn’t get hurt though.

Are things that bad for Converse that can’t even come up with enough money to sign Matt Bonner?

From what I gather, New Balance’s basketball shoes are all assembled overseas.

Their track record for the “Made In The USA” runners has been impressive.

Would be interested to know what exactly caused Bonner’s blowout. Poor workmanship? Materials? Both?

Reminds me of Fred Jones’ Air Jordan 2 Retro explosion on-court years ago.

^^^ Or the foot of the college player going THROUGH the patent on the 2001 retro Concords.

He needs to switch to a better basketball shoe like Brooks for example. The Unique model that Dominique Wilkins endorsed back in 1985-88.’ Brooks needs to get back into the hoop and cleat categories.
