If Gilbert Arenas is keeping a checklist of ways to honor Penny Hardaway apparel-wise, he must have all the boxes checked by now.
A huge fan of the former Orlando Magic star, and now playing for Hardaway’s old team and wearing the jersey number 1 that Hardaway wore with that team, Arenas took to the court last night in a retro of Hardaway’s first signature shoe – the Nike Air Max Penny 1. How apropos that it was the “Orlando” colorway of Black/Varsity Royal-White.
Arenas’ performance was anything but Hardaway-esque, however. He tallied only 2 points on 1-6 shooting with 2 rebounds and 4 assists in a 105-99 home loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
At least his shoes won.
Out in Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant got a Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Green Mamba” shout-out from the local TV crew. Bryant will wear the shoe in the Heat-Lakers Christmas Day game on ABC.
