The bywords on running, the lightest Sprint Spike in the earth history from New Balance:

“Super Sonic”

Fluidic curved lines, speediness, the best performance, design that get rid of everything unnecessary only to get the full-speed, byword for reducing weights.

I was inspired by the barcode pattern of F1 machine and Ferrari team’s F1 machine, which gives the speediness.

And I was inspired by the New Balance’s big ‘N’ logo, which is the symbol of the New Balance shoes and also gives a familiarity to the New Balance loyal customers.

Also I was inspired by the arch-shaped dynamic lines of BMW’s Hofmeister-kick, c pillar, which can give the feeling of moving, even without moving.

His/hers Sprint Spike already gives the feeling of running even at the start line, which can give auditions excitement.

The shoes offer wearing-socks-like comfortless and lightness for the runners by designing the upper covered by one piece of slim mesh.

Also the shoes give the best support via N logo on the front side of the foot, where sprint runners use the most when they run.

Attaching the painted TPU film on the upper helps to reduce the weightless and also to fit on the runner’s foot.

Using aluminum 5mm needle spike for the weight reduction and the spikes are positioned as in L shape, which support the part where the most power are received.

The big N logo located near Achilles tendon, which is emphasized when auditions look at the runners’ back, helps to hold the heels.

The big N logo located near outsole helps the auditions to identify where the shoes are from: New Balance.

Reducing the unnecessary parts, midfoot and heel of outsole, helps to reduce the weight.

The minimum thickness of CM-EVA midsole not only offers the best court feel but also helps the runners to break their records.

I wanna thank all the designers who took the time to create some really great, well thought out concepts. For many of you, this was your first spike silhouette and it’ll expand your design range and help you keep improving on your work. Take advantage of Brett’s offer and drop him an email. We’ve got more CounterKicks Design Competitions coming so definitely stay in the mix and I’m always open to hearing feedback and any new ideas from you all.

Much thanks to the good folks at New Balance for sponsoring this competition!

Another quick note that’s come up from some people. As I wrote in the intro to each part of “The Cuts” these are all NON-RANKED. They are in random order. There is no significance to which part you were placed in. Part 3 has no more rank then Part 1 or Part 2. It was just an easier way to segment down more so it didn’t look overwhelming and I just wanted to give everyone who put in enough effort and at least got 3 different boards in some extra shine. In the future we’ll make this a single round up post to cut down on the confusion.

And just to give you some more background on the process, Brett told me the judging broke down like this: NB team narrowed down all design submissions to top 10. Then 10 to 5. Then implemented a scoring system for the 5 finalists and whoever had the highest score won.

Thanks all…
