You’ve just crossed the NB x CK Design Competition finish line. And the winner is…
We would like to thank everyone that participated in the competition. There were a lot of great entries. Every entrant had their own dynamic opinion on what they thought an iconic and lightweight New Balance Sprint Spike is. It was great to see such a varied response in aesthetic and performance attributes. We were amazed by the amount of entries that came in from all around the world. It is great to see that the love for shoe design is not just in the US; there are many great future designers out there!
As we judged the projects we focused on three topics:
-Inspiration & Story
-Innovation
-Execution
We chose these topics from how we develop our projects in our professional careers. We want every project to be based around a story that is not only inspirational to the consumer but to the athlete as well. It is important to have a product that everyone can relate to. Innovation is vital because we want to always improve where we have been. We strive to make products that will make everyone perform better and that will move the world. Execution is a combination of our story and innovation. It is a fine balance of science and art that combines an intriguing aesthetic with performance qualities to create a new product. We felt that the five finalists below combined these three traits the best and the winner took these topics to the next level.

Well done Brandon. This was my first stab a designing a shoe and this shows me how to refine the process and what to express and develop in a concept. I love the sketches and dotted graphic playing with the colour outline on the side. Proportion, style….brilliant.

Tough work for the judges…
It looked like a real 100 meters race….Brandon was the quickest coming out of the blocks with “inspiration” phase, gaining big advantage, then he was able to manage the advantage during “execution” and “innovation” while other guys were closing the gap without overtaking him…;D
Sprint shoe theme was also very cool because it’s a bit different from normal contest and it was open for big creative work…cool!
