adidas adiZero Crazy Light – Prototypes, Pullovers, Sketches & The NYC Media Event Recap

Crazy Light recap in photos.

Last week, CounterKicks attended the official NYC launch of the lightest basketball shoe ever, the adidas adiZero Crazy Light.

Here’s a look at the pullover and development samples the adidas Basketball team worked with, along with Crazy Light designer Robbie Fuller’s sketch work and renderings of what ultimately clocked in to be a 9.8 ounce super light performance shoe. There’s also shots of the media playing basketball and the event stage where adidas live streamed the Crazy Light launch worldwide on Facebook with Bobbito Garcia, Lawrence Norman (adidas Vice President of Global Basketball), Elysia Davis (Basketball Sport Researcher on the adidas Innovation Team) and Robbie Fuller (Category Designer at adidas Basketball). And more.

You weren’t there, so we took all these cool photos for you to look at. You’re welcome.

Yeah! I’m gonna need one of those shirts!

That grey sample with the “Adi Dassler” signature by the stripes is sick. Looks like they used some carbon for the sprint frame and looks like some speedcut tech at the forefoot. Loved the way the shoe turned out though.

Great coverage on everything from this release!

“Lighter Than Air” shirt is definitely greatness. adiSwag.

Got a super in-depth interview with Crazy Light designer Robbie Fuller next in queue in the coming days. Great work by Team adidas on this project…

NB had a “lighter than air” campaign in the 70′s when they launched the 620 running shoe. Just sayin’

Yeah, Winston, I am going to need one of those shirts as well.

John, I know I have already said it, but the team killed everyone on this release. So much info and pics, no one touches it. Great job on the most anticipated release in a long while.

i love the concept and overall execution of the shoe. i am concerned about the durability, but i guess there’s always a trade-off somewhere in the process. the only thing that slightly irks me is the sketches…the seem disproportionate at times, with the toe being extremely elongated. i don’t know if it was for effect, and i know the final product didn’t turn out well, but as a designer, i find that’s one of the things we are critical of.

Lol, all sketches start out in an abstract style, you’re just making up stuff, to try and sound smart…….

Stillwaters all of the shoes have their official weight done in the size 9 weight, that’s not hype, just the way official weight is determined.

So no need to throw a hissy fit.

@Nene33

does the average consumer know about the “official weight done in the size 9 weight”? i don’t think so.

so it is misleading. but never mind.

while there be a review of this sneaker?

So ignorance by consumers, is the companies misleading the public? …..wtf……

That’s not very deep of you……. :) most runners know these things, because it’s not like it’s a big secret.
It’s a lack of effort to actually learn some real info by the Basketball-heads(and just rely on commercial-slogans, and blurbs), if they don’t.

ok, ok. where is the info from adidas that the shoe is 9.8 oz in a US 9?

if the company doesn’t give you the info, where should you get it?

and if you don’t have the info the companies can tell you anything they want.

and that is not ignorance by consumers. unless knowing the size/weight is common sense (seems it is to you), than i’m sorry.

I knew it to, so does that make it common? Most (and I say most, not all) sneaker heads know that samples come in size 9 and 13. That is what the specs and initial wear-testing is based on. THEN the shoes are presented to public and sent for review to sites like this. I stated in my Rose 1.0 review the shoe weighed more than advertised because it was a larger size. But compare the shoe in a size 12 to a Kobe and it will weigh less.
