The Doctor is back.

Here’s a CounterKicks exclusive first look at the Converse Pro Leather 2K11.

Inspired by the original Julius Erving signature Pro Leather shoe, the Converse Pro Leather 2K11 infuses the Dr. J silhouette with a contemporary, performance-ready styling with heritage Star Chevron branding and “DR. J” badging bestowed to a new generation of ballers. A leather, synthetic and mesh upper is complimented by an external TPU heel counter, internal CBT (Converse Balls Technology) cushioning, and a solid rubber outsole. Julius Erving is again signed on to help promote and endorse the Converse basketball brand for the second season in a row, and will be featured in marketing campaigns for Converse’s top of the line Pro Leather 2K11 signature product.

Converse Pro Leather 2K11 is previewed here in three launch styles: White/Black/Varsity Red, Black/White/Varsity Red, Royal Blue/White/Vaparoud Grey. Releases October 2011. Retail is $100.

Two things:

1) The branding is wrong, using DR J and 2011 seems off. Other than MJ, retired players can’t really sell sneakers. Especially when DR J is before MJ’s time. No offense to DR J but sounds like forcing an old man out of retirement than promoting a futuristic idea.

2) “CBT” Converse ‘Balls’ Technology? I hope that’s a typo. ‘Basketball’ sounds more fitting. Just the pun sounds weird

Converse Balls Technology was introduced a couple years back with the Weapon EVO. Look that shoe up. It was called Balls back then. They’ve renamed it to just the acronyms “CBT” currently though instead of the more playful use of the “Balls” name.

Yeah man! It wouldn’t sound right if someone asks you how it feels like to step on some balls…

G, first of all, Dr. J is JUST like Jordan; the man will sell with his name only. It has nothing to do with his retirement – he was already in all the commercials last year. Second, like John said, Balls technology is what CBT is talking about. And it is a GREAT cushioning system – lively, durable, and stable. Basketball may sound more “fitting”, but as most know who have been on sneaker boards for awhile, Balls is what it is.

I would’ve liked to see more of a Pro Leather influence on ‘em, the name is really the only reference in this shoe :(

it seems like converse has been using a lot of mesh on their bball shoes recently. Great for summer wear, but I’m curious how it’ll hold up after some serious ballin’.

i know Nike’s been using mesh on their shoes but it’s a pretty course and rigid mesh and reinforced to death. The diamond mesh on the back of this shoe is an air mesh and doesn’t have all the hyperfuse layers on top like the Nike stuff.

Anybody ball in the All Star EVO 2? how did that mesh hold up?

We had Bryan review the SICKS posting later and should have a Star Player EVO review at some point. JJ Barea’s been wearing the SP EVO this entire past season. Not sure how many games he uses his shoes before switching to a new pair but he stayed pretty consistent with those.

Yeah, if we could just get a Star Evo low release like he wore.
