As a set, the Hero and Villain follows up last year’s Defend and Conquer pack which became the first basketball shoe and marketing concept designed with alternate uppers on the same outsole platform for home games and away games. This year, Li-Ning takes the dual-season shoe idea another step further with different tooling platforms for both Hero and the already unveiled Villain.
Inspired by superhero comic books, Li-Ning Basketball Creative Director Eric Miller infused the shoe with lateral and medial support wings, a midfoot support strap shield, external heel counter, and a lightning bolt and herringbone traction pattern bottom. Li-Ning’s foam based cushioning appears with “BOUNSE” loaded in the forefoot and “CUSHION” in the heel, both of which are inscribed on the midsole.
Last year’s No. 2 NBA draft pick Evan Turner will start out the new season, whenever play resumes, endorsing the Li-Ning Hero. Fellow brand endorser Baron Davis will wear the Li-Ning Villain. Both models are currently scheduled to launch November 1 with a $99.99 price point. Two launch colorways of the Li-Ning Hero will debut in Grey/Blue/White and White/Red/Black.
