Tinker Hatfield unveils the 2011 Nike Mag shoe for the first time.

Nike is “officially” announcing the release of Marty McFly’s “Back To The Future II” shoes tonight but Tinker Hatfield has already telegraphed and unveiled the 2011 version of the Nike Air Mag for months now, including in this 20-minute sit down interview with EA Sports from back in May 2011.

Tinker is pitched the question, “What does the future look like for sneakers at Nike?” His response after being tossed a pair of the Nike Air Mag kicks from off-camera: “Here it is.”

If you compare the Air Mag shoe Tinker holds in this video to original photos of the “Back To The Future II” movie prop version, this is clearly a new fabrication and model prototype of the shoe that’s been teased all year long in plain sight. There’s discussion of Air Jordans and the new University of Oregon “Matthew Knight Arena” basketball court in the clip but no one cares so much about all that on a day like this. Hyper 80’s babies looking for the latest McFly fix can just skip their cursor ahead to the 12:38 mark for when Tinker Hatfield shows us the new 2011 Nike Air Mag.

interviewer asked tinker, “are you aware…” about something air jordan related. if ever someone was preaching to the pulpit, it would be then.

btw, the shoe is limited to 1500 pairs and will be put up for auction on eBay to help research and eliminate parkinsons disease.

1) great idea and a really noble cause…

…but…

2) way to cut out the middleman by putting them up for auction yourselves, Nike. now i know for certain that the only folks that can hope to own them are upper-class folks…and not the lower and middleclass income consumers who continue to give you their love and support.

John, great to see this post! I remember when I wrote about the Air Mag patenta year ago for you. Can’t wait for these shoes. Figured they wouldn’t come out until 2015 like BTTF II. Earlier is better though. I will def wait in line for these here at the Nike store in Dallas.

well nike’s putting them up for auction tonight, so check out nikemag.eBay.com, but don’t expect to win them for less than $1000.

again, the cause is noble, but that’s a really bitter pill to swallow.

HOW did this video stay under the radar for 3+ months?

They don’t even self-tie though…they just light up and can hold a charge for 5 hours.

That makes me feel a lot better. I actually thought it would be revolutionary.
