Let’s reflect on memorable kicks not manufactured by the big three.
It’s about that time for the showcase of all showcases, the NBA All-Star Game. Other than the fancy passes, exaggerated crossovers, half-court alley oops and at least one center attempting a three-pointer, all sneaker fans care about is what’s on the players’ feet.
The majority of kicks we see in the All-Star Game every year come from the three-headed juggernaut of Nike/Jordan, adidas and Reebok. But there’s life outside the norm. I remember the CDubbz drama that came with that colorway too…
Shoes were all chromed out and even came with the disclaimer that the paint would chip and flake. They were super limited in release and cost $200, at a time that the Battlegrounds series were hitting that same prixe point. A mom buys them for her kid, who turns around and plays in them. Of course, they fall apart and the mom turns around and demands a refund. Tries to sue Eastbay for her money back. Didn’t win.
