Gotta be the shoes.
First Lin and now Rondo.
In the span of a week, we’ve watched Jeremy Lin come out of nowhere to lead the Knicks to five straight wins on averages of 26.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals, and Rajon Rondo dump a triple-double victory on the Bulls with 32 points, 10 boards, 15 assists and 2 steals. While some might argue Lin’s play as anomaly of obscurity and Rondo’s maestro work as a solar flare of productivity, the real quirk in these guys’ performances is that they both accomplished them in the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 Low.
Is there something special going on in these humble shoes that was purposely left off the spec sheet? Did Nike slip in some super-advanced Zoom Air or sprinkle the upper with the flight-inducing sparkling flakes Dudley Moore added to candy canes in Santa Claus: The Movie?
Even the colorways are quiet. Lin’s been doing his work in simple White/Blue and Black/Blue editions. Rondo weaved hoops tapestry in his usual blinding white and green PE shade.
Maybe matching shoes to such a narrow sample of performances is chasing the wind. But maybe it’s not. Now you want to Google “Nike Hyperfuse 2011 Low” and grab a pair on the cheap, don’t you?
NBA Kicks ahead with the mercurial ‘Fuse ’11 Low, Nick Young putting his red Foamposite One’s to the Pistons for a very rare Wiz win, James Johnson at least looking the part in Concords against Kobe & Co., Nate giving his Playoff 13’s a rest by choo-choosing the “Old Royal” AJ 10’s, and more…
