Retrospective: AND1’s 10 Best Shoes Worn In The NBA

Use ← → (arrow) keys for new photos & posts

Remember the stranglehold AND1 had on the NBA during the magical streetball era? Let’s go way back.

How many sneakerheads can claim they got a vault of AND1 goodness amidst their collection of every Nike shoe imaginable?

Rooted in Rafer “Skip” Alston’s playground-to-pro story and branching into players like Kevin Garnett and Jason Williams repping, there was a time when AND1 made a serious play for brand real estate and baller influence. Sports Illustrated even put the Mixtape crew on the cover with the tagline of “The Other Game.”

Then Vince Carter and the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest happened. You want AND1 Tai Chi’s because VC wore them? You can still get them today. AND1’s better days may have waned but those better days made a lasting mark on sneaker history and basketball culture.

In the spirit of retrospective, we’d like to present a look back at 10 of the illest AND1’s to ever pound an NBA court…

Loved these kicks but it is the KGIIs that I seriously regret not buying. They had that hot metallic purple color way on the toes! Man i wish I owned them….

Yup, And1 was def the “it” brand for awhile…Wish they had built on that period, rather than rolled over and faded into relative obscurity. Not being able to keep Monta Ellis is a big deal; Steve Blake is not exactly the perfect endorser for the brand in these ultra-competitive times

Streetball took And1 to a whole another level but the Marbury 1 put And1 on the map. The player logo, the slash, the solid leather, the mid top, that shoe represented Marbury and his game. Crossover, dimes, street game, tough, New York City. I still remember back in highschool when these came out and the whole And1 craze began. And1 shoes, And1 shorts, and And1 attitude t-shirts every where. Those were good times.

They should bring these back. They would out sell any and model out there today.

Awesome work, Joe!

Great to reminisce. AND1 really did make an impact.

The Marbury 1 needs to come back.

Poor old AND1… I recently saw their stuff displayed at WalMart and couldn’t help wondering where it all went wrong. The Tai Chi’s are easily a top 10 all time bball shoe. They were so good, in fact, that they even beat their own company into submission. Now And1 is a relic of a bygone era, a magical time when referees never called a travel and we learned that someone, somewhere could snatch a quarter off the top of a backboard. Yeah, right.
