NBA Kicks: Wall Whitewashes Another Wiz Woe

Wailing Wall.

This isn’t what John Wall expected. His two seasons in D.C. have been failures, the first being a 23-59 underachievement, the second a 12-43 regression so far. Make that depression. Washington is the third worst team in the league, just above the gutted Hornets and inept Bobcats. Wall’s numbers have been steady enough — 16.9, 4.7 and 7.8 this year — but they’re essentially the same stats he put up as a rookie on a team that did and still does need every ounce of his talent. The question has been begged whether Wall’s stagnant play is simply due to playing for a dysfunctional, rudderless organization. The team tried to bail out its sinking ship by trading off class clowns JaVale McGee and Nick Young but the Wiz keep losing, notching a 3-11 record since the double jettison. The latest loss came last night in Detroit where Wall’s 28, 4, 10 and 2 couldn’t push past the pretty terrible Pistons. He wore the “Whiteout” Reebok Wall Season 2 but even his shoe choices seem to have been stamped with the same ‘Who cares?’ that hangs over the Wiz franchise. It now appears there are two ways out of this mess for JW: the team gets players in who will drastically rebuild winning prospects a la Indiana Pacers, or Wall bides his time until free agency. Sounds a little like the Orlando/Dwight Howard situation, without the botched PR circus.

NBA Kicks with Wall in Detroit, James Singleton hopping the Concord train, CP’s feet showing green initiative, and the rest of the roundup ahead…
