The medical maxim “Do no harm” applies to running shoe design more so than any other segment of the footwear industry. Partly because running shoes necessarily have to be able to carry a runner’s uniquely shaped and sometimes quirky feet across dozens and even hundreds of miles without a hitch. But mostly because runners are picky, demanding creatures. Year after year they want the latest shoe to keep all the characteristics they love and yet be revolutionary across the board. How do you satiate these people? That’s the question staring down running brands with much-loved shoe lines. For our latest Running Now installment, we commissioned Patrick O’Malley, Saucony Senior Vice President of Global Product, to discuss how Saucony answered with the new Hurricane 14.
