LEXINGTON, MA (June 19, 2012) – Achieving an entirely new level of innovation in natural motion running, Saucony, Inc., unveiled today the Saucony Natural Series™, a cutting-edge collection of lightweight performance running footwear inspired by the brand’s award-winning Kinvara. The three-shoe Natural Series, available Spring 2013, introduces the revolutionary and much-anticipated Virrata, the lightest training shoe that Saucony has ever built, as well as the third and most advanced versions of the brand’s Kinvara and Mirage. The Saucony Natural Series, which positions the foot for a more natural and powerful stride, delivers a core set of major performance enhancements, including weight reduction, increased flexibility and greater underfoot cushioning.
“The continued success of the Kinvara, which positioned us as a leader in the natural running category, is the inspiration for the Natural Series,” said Patrick O’Malley, senior vice president of global product. “With the Kinvara, Virrata and Mirage, we’ve created a series of running shoes that evolves and redefines the idea of natural motion running. Our designers worked with our Human Performance and Innovation Lab to determine the sweet spot between a natural, deconstructed running experience and improved cushioning. The result is the brand’s fastest, lightest, and most cushioned collection of natural motion running shoes ever produced by Saucony.”
Kinvara 3: So Much Technology, So Little Shoe
The award-winning Kinvara 3, weighing only 7.7 ounces is a performance training shoe with a distinct attitude. Its 4mm heel-to-toe offset positions the runner’s foot during impact in a way that creates a greater range of motion than traditional running shoes (with a 12mm heel-to-toe offset) for the Gastrocnemius-Soleus-Achilles tendon system, allowing for a more powerful running stride.
Saucony has taken the Kinvara 3 to a whole new level with a precision-engineered upper that is lighter and more flexible thanks to FlexFilm™ technology, a lightweight, highly dynamic flexible film welded onto the breathable mesh upper that secures and stabilizes the foot while reducing layers on the shoe. Memory Foam heel pods in the collar ensure an ultra-secure ride.
Saucony’s high abrasion EVA+™ exposed foam sole allows for lightweight protection underfoot, while maximizing rebound and flexibility. XT-900 carbon rubber pods are strategically placed on areas of the Kinvara 3’s outsole for enhanced durability without adding unnecessary weight. The reengineered outsole includes a beveled heel to better facilitate a natural rolling movement from heel to toe.
Virrata: Natural Motion Redefined
The Saucony Natural Series introduces the all-new Virrata, a featherweight, natural motion running shoe that weighs in at a mere 6.5 ounces─1.2 ounces lighter than the Kinvara 3. By combining a 0mm heel-to-forefoot offset with an 18mm midsole of high abrasion EVA+™ foam─a lighter alternative to rubber─the Virrata stands as one of the most cushioned shoes for its weight on the market.
The cumulative effect of the Virrata’s lower offset with increased midsole foam and optimal flexibility helps create a more powerful running stride with plenty of protection from the road. Twenty-four ultra-springy pods on the outsole along with accentuated flex groves allow the runner’s foot to move naturally with an effortless transition. Engineered with an internal bootie construction for a precision fit and a HydraMax™ collar lining for superior moisture wicking, the Virrata is the most advanced weapon of choice for natural motion runners.
Mirage 3: Touch of Guidance
With a 4mm offset, the next generation Mirage, is nearly an ounce lighter than its predecessor. The Mirage is the solution for runners who want the benefits of a natural motion experience in a responsive ride with a touch of guidance. A supportive TPU arc below the arch of the foot provides nominal support, while the beveled, decoupled heel allows for a smooth, efficient transition. A reengineered forefoot with deeper, more substantial flex grooves promotes a smooth and nimble ride. FlexFilm™ technology welded onto the breathable seamless mesh upper secures and stabilizes the foot, simultaneously reducing layers to the shoe while increasing flexibility.
