adidas Rose 3. Derrick Rose’s third fifth signature shoe in three years. This Rose looks fresh. How will they do at the new $160 price point?

The shoes look great, clean, classy, and some attitude, with a great mix of classic details, and new design.

The price puzzles me, as it seems to go against the philosophy of adidas, and the Rose-line so far(performance over hype), and this really isn’t the time to do crazy stuff like this.

You know what? After thinking on this, if this shoe features a leather upper, premium materials, I can see how this shoe is a buck sixty. If Nike is going to charge one eighty for LeBron’s sig shoe, one completely made of plastic, I can get behind Adidas on this one, due to materials alone. I’ll pay high quality craftsmanship, just like with the Jordan XX3.

At least they aren’t lying by suggesting that you are getting something special, simply due to the endorsers name.

So, are they going to do the .5 thing again this year or just drop wild colorways of this model for the whole season? If that is the case, then I can understand the $50 jump in price.

I love the grey colorway. It looked even better in the other pics where the red leaned more towards a magenta color.

As far as the price goes, I can definitely see this shoe struggling at 160. At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be any more value to the shoe performance-wise over the 2.5 or 773. The visible tech is so downplayed compared to previous models or the crazy lights that it could hurt consumer’s perceived value. The thing it has going is a more crafted aesthetic and “premium materials” although it’s probably still a synthetic top layer of the sprintframe.
Nice shoe, but not for 160$

maybe not for $160 but these appear to have actual leather, but I could be wrong. Last year the Rose was cheaper than the Crazy Light so why is it $20 more this year? It makes sense but as Nene was saying, Adidas should be keeping their prices affordable while Nike keeps upping these ridiculous prices.

Real leather and a good performance story and I’ll probably bite.

These look great, and with Adidas’ record of quality products, that’s never the question. The issue here is that, at a point in time where they should be consolidating their strengths (great performers at reasonable prices), they go ahead and put out a new sig with a $50 jump in price, that even with premium materials, is always gonna be a risky strategy. Alienating the staunch followers (those that has successfully resisted most of the hype around Nike or JB’s releases), and trying to gain new converts without a strong marketing drive is just suicide. Well, I guess the Stripes are not immune to the idea that, “hey, if Nike or JB can play the high-priced, limited edition game, why not us?”. Well, good luck with that; I hope things work out well for Adidas, I really do, but it’s just such a risky maneuver that I’m not sure that it’s the right thing to do, when he’s nursing an injury

With no insider info, here is what I can see coming – a Rose “Soldier” line. Make the Sig shoe at $160, make a takedown or Team version (773?) at the $110-$125 price point. Don’t like it or agree with it at this point in time, but I can see the line coming to this, especially with the new logo and clothes coming out. First real sig seller since T-Mac, so they better market for all he is worth while they can.

adidas is trying to compete w/nike, & they also have aggressive targets for their shareholders, so their prices should be expected to go up as well…

lots of attention to detail on this model, it might stand out in contrast to other offerings both within the adidas lineup & the competition…the last model may have got a lil’ boost from the crazylight association, because it had the sprintframe look it was assumed to be lightweight when it wasn’t (not that it was heavy, more towards the average–point being it wasn’t lightweight)

i definitely think next’s years version, or perhaps even the .5 version of this shoe will likely have the suped up miCoach in it & be a lil more expensive…will the us consumer be ‘all in’…?

ultimately i think adidas in the states is seen as a fashion brand, despite their technical leanings; remember they were the 1st to ink a musical act LONG before reebok. in contrast, they also were the 1st(i think, anyway) to put computers in shoes w/the adidas 1 in running (though it was VERY different in concept-they also did a basketball version) and even before that with the microracer (or was it micropacer?). i’ve long thought people that rode with adidas were sorta anti-nike generally, perceiving adidas as ‘substance’ over nike’s ‘flash,’ what will those people do when, in adidas competition w/the swoosh, adidas becomes more like nike? maybe not in attitude, because i think there will always be a fundamental difference there, but with retail costs…

I’ve owned 1 pair of Adidas in my life. They were some Torsions from when I was in the 7th grade. Adidas is a strong company and I don’t see the price point of the new Rose sig hurting their sales. The performance and quality of their shoes has always been on point with the retail price.

Every brand has their luxury line. As far as basketball is concerned, the Rose is Adidas’. I think people will buy the shoe because of it’s quality and the real leather.
