One of the best things about life are pleasant surprises — am I right about that? Put on a pair of pants, you reach into your pocket, and maybe you find a $20 bill that you didn’t know about. Maybe you go to a coffee shop and a really sweet patron ahead of you pays for your cup o’ joe. Sometimes, you may even visit family, and come to your mom’s house finding that you have your favorite meal waiting for you. Well, what if you fly to Las Vegas, check into your hotel room, and find a pair of one of the all-time greatest shoes ever in a mysterious backpack waiting for you? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me.
I understood that covering the Reebok Classics event at PROJECT in Vegas meant that I might have some access to a few goodies, but I was overjoyed to find a bag of Reebok’s The Question in white/pearlized red waiting on my bed! Though, Allen Iverson himself wore a player exclusive suede version in 1996-97 with accent blue trim, the original retail version of the white/pearlized red/blue Question Mid was only available in Philadelphia, Cleveland, New York, and a few other select cities, and was sold in limited numbers, making the legend of his PE and the initial retail versions a unique kind of Holy Grail for collectors and aficionados. Having missed out on the hyped re-release of A.I.’s first signature shoe this past spring (they were released in the basic white/pearlized red — no blue trim — years ago), I was excited to finally have what I’ve long been missing, and in my excitement, I took a pack of pictures in and outside of my hotel room, what you will see below.
