Fashion faux pas in more ways than one?
Well if you’re the co-founder and chairman of one of the most recognized sportswear brands on Earth, you’ve likely incurred some added flexibility in the public’s mind to rock out your own branded sneakers to a formal induction ceremony filled with black suits, black ties, and black dress shoes.
So we can cross out one faux pas for Phil Knight. But what about the other?
This screen capture we took from video of Uncle Phil’s Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame speech shows the newly admitted HOFer for his “contributions to the game of basketball” clearly wearing running shoes.
While the contrast and clarity on the image isn’t high, it looks to us like Phil chose a pair of original Nike LunarGlides to wear. So they’re not even the latest LunarGlide 4 model the company is pushing. You’re out of season, Philip Hampson Knight. Wait ’til the stockholders hear about this one, guy.
We can say this though. Unlike Michael Jordan’s HOF speech/rampage, Phil Knight came with a subtle diss to basketball. A pair of Nike running shoes on hoops hardwood. Keeping it classy.
