This Is How Dwyane Wade & Li-Ning’s Official First Day Launching The New WADE Brand Went


Dwyane Wade arrived in China Monday night and had an on camera moment of reflection.

On Tuesday, DWade took a tour of Li-Ning’s campus headquarters and rallied the troops.

Wednesday is what you’ll see here. The first official day of the Li-Ning and Dwyane Wade brand partnership which Wade says not only will be the last of his career, but the beginning of a legacy.

The anticipated “10/10″ announcement was held inside the Grand Hyatt Beijing hotel at 4 p.m. local China time. The namesake Mr. Li Ning himself came out on stage with Wade to help introduce the new WADE brand formation, cementing the bond by each man pressing their hand down into a Li-Ning created plaque depicting a basketball court to mark the occasion and showing off the freshly sunk prints to all inside.

Down a white runway typical of a fashion model shoot, throngs of media and their assembled cameras captured Chairman Li Ning walking past with the debut Li-Ning Way of Wade signature shoe in hand. Then, Li Ning brought the shoe onto the main stage while Wade autographed a roundball and the duo showed off fresh product in hand for what is the beginning a multi-year and perhaps multi-decade relationship between the two.

All in the meanwhile, a huge crowd is forming nearby. Li-Ning’s flagship store located in the downtown Beijing district of Wangfujing is waiting for the scheduled after-announcement appearance of Dwyane Wade.

Switching out of his well appointed suit and red necktie, DWade finally reaches the masses and enters the Li-Ning shop decked out in his new brand’s gear — a lightweight hoody and training pants each bearing the Li-Ning logo in the upper left of the garment. Oh, and the shoes too. His new ones. A super crisp pair of previously unseen white-and-black Way of Wade kicks with translucent bottoms.

With the official first day of public Li-Ning and Dwyane Wade activities in the books, and the local time fast approaching midnight and a new day, it still wasn’t the end of Wade’s media run.

At 2:49 p.m. Central my time, which converts to 3:59 a.m. Beijing time, I got a call on my cell phone. It was Wade…

busy day for wade eh? good for him… and counterkicks… those cp3.VI really sucks.. got em, feels like i’m on tip toe all the time.. it makes my knee hurt

We’ve got a detailed breakdown on the kicks in the works too. They’re really nice after hearing all the details and ideas that went into it. The retail cost is comparatively justified too once you find out some of the materials they used. It’s a premium product…

John, you know, KNOW, I need to get at those. I really love the looks of them – casual and not too techy but performance oozing out. If the masses would just realize other brands can build performance monsters, what a beautiful world we would have…
