You may have thought, wait, didn’t I just buy these in a recent year? You probably did. With a Jumpman logo on the back. The “purist” collector set have clamored for years about a return to a more original replica version of the first decade of Air Jordans which were still closely held under Nike guidance and corporate badging — years away from the official formation of a separate Jordan Brand division within the parent company.
While in 1999 and the early 2000s the initial Air Jordan retro sets included Nike and Swoosh logo badging, it’s disappeared in full for nearly this past decade, replaced by Jumpman logos and “Jordan” wordmarks.
In 2013, we’ll see a limited return to the vintage “Nike Air” logo on select Jordan Brand retro product. It won’t be a full flushed replica, as these Air Jordan 3 Retro ’88 photos show. While the Swoosh once again graces the heels, the rubber outsole molds underfoot still appear to read “JORDAN” from recent releases.
This Air Jordan 3 Retro in white and cement grey, which Michael Jordan wore in the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest, is tentatively scheduled for a likely release during All-Star Weekend in February 2013, CounterKicks has been told. More info to come.
