After being drafted first overall in the 2000 NBA Draft, four seasons in New Jersey, seven in Denver, and stints with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers and L.A. Clippers, Kenyon Martin has finally settled down as a Knick. For another week, anyway.
Martin, playing on his second 10-day contract with New York, made his latest case to be signed though the rest of the season last night against visiting Oklahoma City with 4 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal in 17 minutes off the bench. Meager stats but it was how he got them — hustle and energy — that endeared him to the Garden crowd and helped spark the Knicks’ run to pull the game close.
Whether or not GM Glen Grunwald decided to keep Martin beyond his current 10 days remains to be seen. But if Martin indeed moves on, he can at least say he seized the chance to wear Air Jordan 9 “Fontay Montanas” and blue Jordan Spiz’ikes for the Knicks in a nationally televised game. Most can’t.
