The University of Oregon football team will forego their traditional green hue a bit this weekend, honoring breast cancers survivors and marking National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a pink accented Nike kit.
When they take the field against Washington State on Saturday, the undefeated Ducks will supplement their black Nike Pro Combat uniform with pink Nike Vapor Talon Elite cleats, Vapor Carbon Elite socks, Vapor Jet gloves, and helmets “designed to to raise awareness and funds to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund,” according to Nike, Inc.
“Cancer has touched so many lives and hopefully, together with Nike and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, we can help create awareness and help raise money for the fight against women’s cancers,” said Oregon Football Head Coach Mark Helfrich via press release. “It is an honor to join Coach Yow’s team in a fight that unites us all.”
Oregon and Nike are adding to the on-field show of support by auctioning a limited number of pink helmets — five each day for five straight days beginning at Saturday’s kick-off time — including select helmets autographed by Oregon coach Mark Helfrich, and notable Oregon alums Phil Knight, Ahmad Rashad, Dan Fouts and Joey Harrington.
Bidders can visit www.kayyow.com/ducks to access individual helmet auctions between October 19 and October 25. Each auction will last for 48 hours.
