This past Thursday, Under Armour held its Spring/Summer 2014 preview event in New York City, showing off updates to its full line of performance footwear for men, women and children.
CounterKicks was on hand to check out the Baltimore-based brand’s new designs, as well as get an idea of where their footwear division is heading in the coming year. From seeing what they have planned, it looks like 2014 is set to be another year of growth for Under Armour.
I had a chance to speak with UA Senior Creative Director of Footwear Dave Dombrow about where Under Armour footwear is headed and what they have in store for us in the next year. Aside from revealing to us their brand new lifestyle shoe, the UA Gold we brought you a first look at last week, Dave also showed me some updates to their current line of runners.
Existing models like the Spine and Monza will have refreshes for 2014, with progress being made in making the shoes lighter and more functional.
The biggest update to their footwear line looks to be the SpeedForm Apollo (an update to their popular SpeedForm running shoe). This shoe has undergone some changes from the original SpeedForm, most noticeably the transition from individual toe molds on the front of the shoe to one divot.
The Apollo will retail at $100 as opposed to the current SpeedForm price of $120. Under Armour wants the Apollo to reach out to more people than its SpeedForm brethren, a shoe which is somewhat of a more niche running shoe.
As Dave told me, “In 2014, we are bringing SpeedForm to the masses.”
On top of the footwear, I also got to check out some of the updates to their lifestyle and performance clothing lines, as well as a continuation of their licensed products from DC/Marvel comics. Under Armour has a whole new wave of superhero branded performance clothing coming at us next year in a new range of colors and designs for spring and summer.
It’s clear that the brand is very excited about where they’re headed and looks to continue bringing performance-based innovative designs to their core customers and beyond throughout 2014.
