Matt Bonner Signs With adidas, Moves On From New Balance

Matt Bonner is now an adidas athlete, and won’t have to worry about running out of New Balance shoes or having them blow up in a game ever again.

The San Antonio Spurs three-point specialist and long-time New Balance enthusiast debuted a pair of grey and black adidas Crazy 8 in last night’s home loss to the Thunder.

Bonner is sure to enjoy a steady supply of sneaker from adidas, a marked change from the last two years of Bonner rotating a dwindling stash of New Balance 8026s in the effort to extend his tenure in the shoes as long as possible.

In Fall 2012, Bonner discovered a few extra pairs of New Balances in a locker that he’d planned to save for the 2012-13 NBA season, and had been making them work game after game since.

Bonner’s move to adidas leaves New Balance without an NBA presence. The Boston-based company has quietly withdrawn from the basketball shoe category over the last five years.
