Polarizing is a word I use often on this site, and I don’t use it lightly. When most people either love or hate a design, or a performance, we have a polarizing shoe. Jordan I. Jordan XI. adidas Feet You Wear line. Reebok Answer IV. They all drew a line down the middle. LeBron 11 seems polarizing for a different reason – the person the shoe was “designed” for seems to hate it. That sucks, for Nike and for us (maybe not so much for Nike because $200 shoes that sell out never sucks for them). So, does the shoe suck? Depends on who you are and what you read. Me, I have always dribbled to my own beat, so give me a snare and the high-hat and let’s get to work.

***

First, let’s get all this techie talk out of the way. As most of you probably have heard, there is a Hyperfuse and Hyperposite upper on LeBron 11. Hyperposite around the heel and midsole forming a shell to hold the foot over the footbed, and a thin Hyperfuse element in the flex points and lace/toe area for transition and comfort. A drop-in midsole made of a Lunarlon carrier and full-length Zoom Air bottom loaded for cushioning. Dynamic Flywire for additional fit and support. Combat-padded tongue. Did I miss anything? Who knows – these look like Tony Stark designed them for fighting The Mandarin. Let’s just play…

My favorite counter against the “Bruce Bowen” was the “kobe’s unnatural shooting motion” aka let me elbow you in the face.

Great review and wish you a swift recovery.

Get well soon Brian.

Great review, the shoes sound great, personally I can’t get past the Lunar(I’m big, and they still bottom-out too quick for me), but the shoes seem awesome, definitely not a LeBron shoe(even ‘redefined’ they can’t seem to stay on LeBron’s feet), but a great basketball shoe.

and this is why I love Hinkle reviews..no fanboyism. I tried these as well and did not enjoy them so they aren’t in my rotation at all. Traction is not good on dirty floors at all and feels too clunky to me. Thanks Duke!

and I too was not a fan on the Kobe 8. although I may drop the AJ 2012 insole into it to firm it up a bit. Lunaron flattens out way to fast for a “premium” foam

Very similar experience to mine; great containment, excellent cushioning that could’ve been better if the Lunarlon was denser, surprisingly good transition, and les-than-adequate traction on non-pristine courts.

Thanks Duke, and try pulling a Reggie Miller-style leg kick midair the next time Bruce decides to get up close and personal.

Another great read. I haven’t had a Lebron shoe since the VI, which I liked for the double stacked zoom, which was pillowy, but maybe not necessarily the best thing for me. Materials were nice on those, but the fit on the upper was a tad tight for me.

I wonder over time how the story on the Lebron XI will age with time. It really is unique how Nike created a tech’d out sig for their #1 guy and how it was a great shoe for everyone except him.

Great review Duke. I really liked the fit and transition on the XIs when I played in them. Traction was fine to very good on all the floors I played on. The cushioning is comfortable. Walking around comfort is spot on and these were great for casually shooting around or playing lightly. I just found the cushion too mushy for me when I played hard. It honestly felt like the shoes were slowing down my quick cuts and screwing up the timing on my jumpers. I think these shoes would be great if they firmed up the foam and top loaded the zoom.
