When Etonic kindly offered to send along a right shoe sample of the Akeem The Dream ahead of the retro’s June release, I knew snapping some photos for your guys and gals was a done deal. How to flip the setting for those photos, however, remained a bit of an opened ended question… until I remembered and subsequently unearthed my Champion replica Olajuwon jersey from 1995. Then I closed that question and went to work.
Who knew saving that laundry would pay off so satisfyingly nearly 20 years later? Anyway, here’s the result of that muse pairing. As for the Akeem The Dream, I found the sample to be really well done — leather that looks, feels and smells like actual leather, a plush ankle, genuine high-top height like the original, the stylized patches on the tongue (which no one really does anymore and it’s a shame they don’t), and the ankle fit pulley system really works.
And, as with the Ewing Athletics return, seeing brands like Etonic getting back in touch with their roots is a welcome sight in an industry that has seemed somewhat homogenized over the last 10, 15 years.
So go get these photos, let us know your thoughts on the Akeem retro and Brand Dream launch, and stay tuned for more as the Etonic x Hakeem partnership revs up.
