Yes, Al Harrington still plays in the NBA. You’re excused if you didn’t know that. His official role is Washington Wizards reserve forward, but in more practical terms his duties are that of mentor to John Wall and Bradley Beal as well as part-time sneaker connoisseur.
That last résumé bullet point was his calling card last night in Game 4, as the 16-year veteran laced up a Wiz-appropriate Nike LeBron 11 iD for 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals in 23 minutes off the bench. Without those stats the Wiz might not have been quite as competitive in a pivotal game that saw the Indiana Pacers claw back from a 19-point deficit to win, 95-92, and return to Indianapolis with a 3-1 series lead.
Washington will probably need every speck of Al’s veteran leadership in Game 5 on Tuesday night if they want their season to stay alive. If he can’t, or if John Wall scores 12 points on 4-11 shooting again, more funky LeBron 11s will do. That helps us more than the Wiz but still, gotta look for those silver linings.
