Brandblack previewed their new collection this past week at the Mondrian Hotel in New York City, and we were there to get a look at what is coming up for the relatively young brand, including a peek at the next incarnation of Jamal Crawford’s signature shoe.
Brandblack officially launched themselves into the sneaker world in November 2013 with a lineup of shoes including the Black Hawk, Phantom and Jamal Crawford’s J.Crossover signature shoe. The upstart company showed that what it may lack in name recognition, it more than makes up for with design experience and leadership from founder David Raysse, who has worked with shoe companies like adidas and Fila (he designed the sneakerhead classic Grant Hill II) for over 20 years.
I spoke with David about his concept behind the brand and as he explains it’s all about “Fashion meets sport.” Brandblack is looking to make a dent in the massive sneaker market by providing their customers quality performance products that are also highly fashionable.
“Luxury to us is not Versace prints and gold stuff on there,” Raysse explained. “To us, luxury is really nice materials and letting those do the talking.”
David also gave me a look at Jamal Crawford’s next signature shoe, the J. Crossover II, which Crawford will be wearing at the start of the 2014-2015 NBA season. The shoes will likely hit retail right after the All-Star break in February 2015 and feature an all-knit forefoot, which will make them extremely breathable and lighter than Crawford’s first shoe.
You can take a look at the new J. Crossover II and several of the other upcoming releases from Brandblack ahead in the gallery, and we’ll be here to bring you updates on their newest releases as they’re announced.
