Created as part of a St. Patrick’s Day pack to commemorate the Irish holiday next Wednesday is this adidas TS Supernatural Creator model. Much like the Supernatural Commander model we just previewed, the shoe comes dressed in white and green with gold accenting. A new Derrick Rose colorway in the adidas TS Supernatural Creator is out. This White/Red colorway features red patent leather overlays on the upper, reflective three stripes on the lateral sides, and the initials “DR” stitched onto the medial sides of the shoe. A quick search of major retailers online turned up no order pages for the previously unseen colorway, but a NikeTalk member says they purchased the style at their local Champs Sports retailer. Most great ideas follow a long line of progression. Very rare is the concept that is solid gold on the first try. Following this concept, the adidas TS Supernatural Creator follows a long line of progression that began, as far as I remember, in 1995 with the introduction of the Feet You Wear concept. Starting with the EQT Top Ten 2000, worn by Kobe in his rookie year, adidas seemed bent on giving us low-to-the-ground feel and performance mimicking a players’ bare foot, contours and all, with the idea and slogan being: “Based on the greatest piece of sports equipment: Your Foot”.

What followed was about a three year progression on the concept, finally arriving at what was deemed the culmination of the idea: The adidas KB8. After this shoe, however, a dispute between the creator of the Feet You Wear concept and adidas led to the discontinuation of the line and development. Now, 10 years later, this leads us to the Supernatural Creator. It is the best version of Feet You Wear which has been retooled and inspired the creation of adidas Pure Motion – the new standard bearer in court-hugging, stable, responsive technology.

The Supernatural Creator, the new standard for Feet You Wear, now dubbed Pure Motion

First spotting these on the feet of Devin Harris during last summer’s pro leagues, the only things I could see were the shroud and the pods. After calming my Feet You Wear techno-geek and wondering what was under the shroud, I found I had to wait until January 2010 for the product to hit stores. Then January came, and no news. Finally, a few weeks ago, they hit Amazon and Eastbay only to be back-ordered until the NBA All-Star week. With seemingly every city receiving these before the host city of the All-Star festivities in Dallas (where I live), I finally received a call from my local sneaker store to come get my pair. Not waiting to test them, I headed directly to the University of Texas at Arlington basketball courts to try them out. After three 3-hour runs there and one 3-hour run at 24 Hour Fitness, I had made up my mind: adidas has hit upon greatness.

Cushioning: I will start with the most interesting feature: the pods. Taking cues from both classic Feet You Wear designs and the newer Formotion technology, adidas now brings us PureMotion. Hitting us with the lines “making you one step quicker” and “to be faster, fly higher, go further” for the Supernatural Creator marketing campaign, adidas basically tells us you will play better in this shoe. A big reason for that is because the pods are made to not only bend and flex with your foot, but along with the solid traction and Torsion structure, it bounces your foot back to position as quickly as possible to take that next step. I first found the pods to be a unique feel, because as soon as I stepped on the court I could feel each pod working independently for the whole shoe. It was as if adidas took the old Cell cushioning from the Artillery era and placed one in each pod. On top of that, they managed to make the Formotion more responsive than either of the previous implementations (I liked the T-Mac VI version better than last year’s Creators, btw). It is almost like a different, better form of Jordan Brand’s Independent Podular Suspension (I.P.S.) system – maybe what it should have been. The adiPRENE+ forefoot also brings a new, improved feel from last year’s models. This is the closest I have ever felt from adidas to being a responsive answer to Zoom Air, as the adiPRENE+ feels regionalized for each area, taking away any stiffness the forefoot might have. The heel feels like normal EVA, but in combination with the pod system, is actually more responsive rather than impact reducing, although I never felt any jarring.

Fit/Comfort: I hesitate to add a fit category here. I have read some people fitting down a half size, but most staying with their true size, true being relative to them. I wear a 10.5/11 in most shoes, and my last few pairs (Zoom Kobe IV, TS Commander and Bounce Commander, Weapon Evo, Jordan XVI.5) were all 10.5. I tried on both in these and went with an 11. The reason being the forefoot felt a little tight on my pinky toe and after my trial with the Jordan XX3, I had no tolerance for pain in that area. The fit was still about right. The shroud definitely felt like it snugged the shoe, but the lacing system pulls tight enough for any baler to find their ideal fit. Using lace loops for all holes except the top, it allows for an easy pull to tighten up. One thing, the lacing stops at the bottom of the zipper; it does not go all the way to the toe. This could lead to a bad fit, but the way the midsole wraps the foot puts a stop to any movement. And I mean a definite stop. This shoe fits better than any adidas I have had, and maybe any shoe except the Zoom Kobe IV – and even that is close. The ankle is very thickly padded, including a set of ankle pads of thicker density around and just behind the ankle bone, leading to a no-slip fit even when laced relatively loose, especially with the strap and shroud zipped. I felt no front or side movement at all. There is also a use of the three stripes internally under the shroud as part of a ribbing along the shoe incorporated with the middle three lace loops, leading to even more stability.

Performance/Traction: Shine on, adidas!!! The best thing about this shoe is the effortless wearing. There is absolutely nothing bad to say here. Transition is so smooth they honestly feel like running shoes. Whether turning a corner to go to the hole or playing defense and cutting someone off laterally, there was never any question on the shoe doing what it should. It was scary good. The rolling transition from heel to toe did take some time to get used to for shooting jumpers, but it was almost like I was over-jumping, being used to compensating for shoes with a lack of transition. Traction, being considered a weak spot of adidas by the general consumer for years, is outstanding (on indoor, clean courts). The clear rubber on the pods is very sticky, almost like a volleyball shoe, employing the wave-bone pattern. I don’t think it would last very long outdoors due to the treads being shallow on the pods, but I don’t plan on finding out. Ankle support was also great without being overly restrictive. A deep Achilles notch helps in mobility, and the strap and laces can be loosened to allow for more mobility without losing too much in the stability department. If you are very concerned about your ankles, braces will fit in these at your normal size (see photo below).

The only bad thing I can find is the ventilation, which anyone can tell is not the greatest with a shroud. My feet were sweating just wearing them out to the grocery store, so you can imagine a game setting. Some were also concerned about weight. These weigh about as much as the Jordan XVI.5 and feel lighter than the Nike Zoom BB.

There it is – the new definition of Supernatural, thanks to adidas. I rate it a solid 92/100, based on nothing more than my own internal scale. I rate a shoe based on whether I play in it two days in a row or feel the need to switch it up. I have not played in anything else since I bought the adidas TS Supernatural Creator and have left the house only once without them on or in my bag (dang Dallas snow). I won’t say perfect, but it has replaced the Nike Zoom Kobe IV as my go-to shoe. Long live Feet You Wear!!!!

First time NBA All-Star Derrick Rose will be making an appearance at Foot Locker inside the Dallas Galleria Mall this weekend. Rose’s visit is scheduled for Sunday, February 14th from 12-1PM where he will sign autographs and help launch his brand new adidas TS Supernatural Creator shoe.

We originally showed you the adidas TS Supernatural Creator “All-Star” West edition back in November of last year here. The Red/White/Gold shoe features a fit-foam collar and new Pure Motion technology which “works to adapt to the natural motion of your feet when playing to ensure optimal traction and stability” according to adidas. On Friday night, adidas said it was dropping Gilbert Arenas as an official endorser following his guilty plea to a felony gun charge in Washington, D.C. “In response to Gilbert Arenas’ guilty plea to felony charges, adidas has terminated its agreement with the athlete effective immediately,” said adidas spokeswoman Stephanie Von Allmen. “Beyond this statement we have no further comment at this time.”

Under adidas contract since 2003, here’s a recent look at special make-up sneakers Gilbert Arenas will not be wearing upon a return to the NBA: adidas TS Cut Creator Low and the upcoming release of the adidas TS Supernatural Creator Low – both of which feature Gilbert Arenas signature badging on the shoes. Counter Kicks also scoured the adidas US website for remaining traces of Arenas. Under the list of athletes for their current “Basketball Is A Brotherhood” campaign, Arenas has already been scrubbed with only Antawn Jamison and Deshawn Stevenson from the Washingon Wizards appearing on the list. Previous season ad campaigns for Gilbert however remain on the website including “GilTV” and “Impossible Is Nothing” as of this posting at 12:30 EST. Devin Harris is one of the bright spots for the 3-35 New Jersey Nets. Today we get a detailed look at the new adidas TS Supernatural Creator that he’s currently wearing on NBA courts. The shoe features a new implementation of adidas’s ForMotion technology with an outsole has an organic, “Feet You Wear” styled look along with a clean upper design exhibiting a zippered enclosure. The top tier silhouettes that will be featured on NBA courts and at NBA All-Star Weekend next February are the updated Commander and Creator lines in the form of the TS Supernatural Creator and the TS Supernatural Commander, both of which feature adiPRENE+ and ForMotion technology tooling. adidas Young Guns – Yet another model with no as-of-yet public backstory but it looks like it could be a solid potential real-life release if adidas ever took it to production. Comparing the silhouette to the now confirmed TS Supernatural Creator along with the “Young Guns” title description makes us think this could possibly be the takedown version to that shoe. We’ll see…
