Earlier today, we gave you a look back at the AND1 ME8 Tribute shoe which the company released last year to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. While the shoe is no longer available for purchase, it was seen and worn on the feet of Monta Ellis today as he poured in 36 points, eight assists, and five rebounds to lead the Golden State Warriors against the Chicago Bulls. With today being the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in the U.S., we decided to take a brief look at the commemorative shoe AND1 created last year in honor of the civil rights leader. The ME8 was Monta Ellis’ first signature shoe with the company and featured “L2G” cushioning technology at the heel. This White/Sandstone/Tan tribute shoe was produced in a run of 1,929 pairs – MLK’s birth year – and retailed for $129.99 with donations being made from the limited edition shoe to The Washington D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation Inc. and The Stanford University Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute. In a statement at the time, Monta Ellis said, “Dr. King gave me the opportunity to dream of a better life.
