Rounding out New Balance’s 574 re-launch is the Outline, the brand’s take on technical outerwear. In addition to the shoe’s rip-stop fabric and reflective piping – features that New Balance says highlight the 574’s new, tighter fitting form and streamlined appearance – first-class materials are found inside and out to create an enhanced, athletic-inspired lifestyle sneaker. Commonly used for rugged-use products such as sails, parachutes and tents, rip-stop affords consumers a strong, lightweight textile that is tear-resistant. Reflective garment surfaces, such as Outline’s piping, are regularly included on active wear to serve as a safety alert when flashed with light at certain angles, as well as to provide an added aesthetic appeal.
