Earlier this month, news of the coming Reebok Zig Slash caused a bit of stir in sneakerhead circles for its brash design and curiosity about ZigTech technology’s move to performance basketball. Today, images of a new Gunmetal/Comet colorway have been released. An important detail about these samples: Due to concern about the traction underfoot, Reebok has let it be known that additional solid rubber traction as seen in the forefoot area of the shoe currently will also be added to the heel area on the production version to help minimize slippage. Official release is December 2010. Continue reading for more detailed images of the Gunmetal/Comet Reebok Zig Slash.

This is a sneak preview of the yet-to-be announced Reebok ZigTech basketball shoe which the Canton, MA based company is currently developing. As much a “spy shot” as a sneak preview, the photographer says the image was taken at his local gym where a former Boston University basketball player was wear testing a sample version of the ZigTech basketball model, sent to him by Reebok.
Seen in a Black/White colorway, this initial look suggests a lower profile ZigTech foam arrangement with added ZigTech lateral outriggers for side-to-side basketball movement. The upper consists of a generally clean silhouette with a large Vector logo comprising the main visual element. Reebok has not set an official release date for their coming ZigTech basketball lineup yet, but we will keep you updated as info develops.

Reebok CEO Uli Becker gives Footwear News a frank and honest assessment of the Reebok business in an interview posted up today. Highlights include Becker’s thoughts on Reebok’s past mistakes, the current resurrection of the brand in the retail space, the growth of its EasyTone and ZigTech platforms, and the new outlook on the Canton, Massachusetts based brand going forward. Also hinted at in the interview is a new Reebok technology line for fall 2010 called “U-Form” which is a heat-activated customized fit system in which the wearer heats up the shoe at a high temperature for a short period of time and then laces the shoe up immediately afterward so that the properties of the shoe conform to the individual wearers feet. Basketball and running models in the new U-Form line are expected to hit later this year. Check out the full FN interview here.
