Special sneakers for a special day.

Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and special shoes recognizing the civil rights legend were out in force. We’ve seen the Nike/Jordan Brand/Converse Black History Month 2011 Collection in still images but the numerous editions appeared to stand out even more in action. Players from virtually every team in the 13-game schedule sported something from the collection, including selections as varied as the Nike Zoom Kobe VI, Nike Zoom Hyperfuse and Nike Hyperdunk 2010 to the Jordan Take Flight, Jordan CP3.IV, and Converse Star Player EVO. Even shoes such as Ray Allen’s “Ring Ceremony” Air Jordan 11′s from 2008 and Monta Ellis’ MLK, Jr. Day make-up AND1 ME8 Sovereign saluted Dr. King.

Side by side with the special shoes were many models with which we’ve gotten familiar throughout the season, including Derrick Rose’s adidas adiZero Rose, Dwight Howard’s adidas Beast, Jason Kidd’s PEAK Kidd II, Kevin Garnett’s ANTA KG 1, and many items from the Nike Basketball stable.

NBA Kicks “Martin Luther King, Jr. Day” straight ahead…
