Rice-A-Rondo.
This NBA season has been the Year of the Kicks Change-Up.
From Gilbert Arenas’ Lazy Susan-like rotation each game to Jordan Brand athletes and outliers grab bagging an assortment of Jordans to role players picking from myriad colorways, it seems like the whole league has gone fickle with footwear. Or at least extra curious.
Rajon Rondo has been a Nike Hyperfuse Mid and Low man this season, despite taking a brief, painful break with the Nike Air Max 360 BB Low. But last night, even he put away his go-to’s in favor of another shoe. Wearing the Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Rice”, Rondo recorded 17 points, 2 rebounds, 10 assists, and 4 steals in the Celtics’ 95-90 road win over the Kings. Apparently, the Black/Metallic Gold-Green low cut shoe with gradient gold/green scales was a successful choice.
In the Rockets-Lakers game, Kobe Bryant opted for a White/Purple-Silver colorway of the Kobe VI, already branching out from the standard first release “Away” and “Concord” editions. He put up 32, 6, 11, and 1 in a 114-106 Lakers win. For the Rockets, Courtney Lee went with the Nike Air Foamposite One “Cough Drop”. He had been on the Nike LeBron 8 for a run.
Wizards guard Nick Young rounded out the night of Kobe VI by scoring 30 points in the “Concord” colorway in a 97-89 road loss to the Hornets.
