It was a night of scoring, dunks, dancing, and kicks from the NBA’s best rookies and sophomores. And it was punctuated by a 22-foot “bounce-oop”.
John Wall notched 12 points and a Rookie-Sophomore Game-record 22 assists to lead the Rookie squad to a 148-140 victory. Wall’s performance earned him MVP of the game but yielded him something better – highlight of the night. Early in the second half, Wall slammed the ball down just inside the three point line to a trailing Blake Griffin, who then finished the play with a two-handed reverse slam. Wall wore his Reebok Zig Slash “All-Star” shoe created by Dylan Stratton, while Griffin wore his player exclusive Nike Air Max Fly By.
The big show didn’t stop there. Fellow rookie DeMarcus Cousins scored a game-high 33 points and added 14 rebounds, while sophomores DeJuan Blair recorded 28 points and 30 points, respectively. Cousins and Blair joined Griffin in wearing the Air Max Fly By while Harden laced up the Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Orange County”. And yes, Brandon Jennings did wear his all-red Under Armour Micro G Black Ice Low “All-Star”.
