Grizzlies eat Spurs.
The 8 seed Grizzlies finished off the 1 seed Spurs last night, 99-91, wrapping up the series in six games and joining the 2007 Warriors as the only teams to knock off the very top dog in a 7-game format. Memphis was again led by Z-Bo Randolph (Nike Air Max Fly By), whose running flings, fadewaways and putbacks added up to 31 points to go along with 11 rebounds. The balanced attack also included Tony Allen’s (adidas adiZero Rose) 11 and 4, Marc Gasol’s (Nike Air Max Fly By) 12 and 13, Mike Conley’s (adidas Crazy Light) 9, and Greivis Vasquez’s (Under Armour Micro G Blur) 11 bench points.
The Spurs got 23 from Tony Parker (Nike Zoom Brave IV) and 16 from Manu Ginobili (Nike Air Max Fly By) but little else from its aged squad. Tim Duncan chose the adidas TS Lightswitch to contribute 12 and 10, and Antonio McDyess chipped in 10 in the Jordan Six Rings. The 4-2 series win seemed to signal the dawn of a new era for the Grizzlies and perhaps the end of one for the Spurs. Memphis now faces the Thunder in their Game 1 second round match Sunday.
