Black & Gold.
The 2011 MLK Jr. Day kicks were black, gold and plentiful. This year, they were black, gold and scarce.
Ray Allen got a pair of Air Jordan XII‘s in Black/Gold and laced them up last night to honor the slain civil rights icon and to battle the OKC Thunder. Ray fought the good fight but the Thunder prevailed, 97-88, on the strength of KD’s 28 and Russy’s 26, both in their standard Nike Zoom KD IV and Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011, respectively.
Down in D.C., John Wall showed off a black and gold pair of Reebok ZigEncore‘s for a game high 38 points but the Rockets kept the Wiz in the dumps with a 114-106 victory, dropping Washington to a really terrible 1-12 overall record.
That’s really where the MLK kicks stopped. Again, no wide model rollout from brands like last year. Guess they didn’t want it to become a stale concept too soon.
Watch for these kicks and Jared Jeffries in Concords, Rajon Rondo in green Nike Zoom Hyperforce‘s, Derek Fisher striking a winning pose in the adidas Crazy Light Low, and more ahead in the MLK Jr. Day NBA Kicks recap…
