South Beach and LeBron James set a trend a short couple years ago. To help kick off a new locale and a new shoe, the Nike LeBron 8 created a new color combo trend upping teal and pink into a Miami Vice-inspired motif that sneakerheads went crazy for.
It was a good run. While Nike dipped other models in the SB style, Nike Basketball reps publicly stated no more teal and pink for the Bron line. One off type of deal. Special occasion. It wouldn’t be on the LeBron 9. And it sort of wasn’t. And it was.
U-turning on those early season LeBron 9 SB comments, a special “Miami Vice” tinged LeBron 9 Elite was created as both an encore and a send off of the style to fans, placing more emphasis on grey in that colorup than a double shock of brightness.
This year, it looks like the South Beach run is finally over, from what we’re told. There’s no LeBron X “South Beach” style planned or in queue for retail accounts. All you have left is a dream. And NIKEiD, where they’re currently teasing a green and pink mix largely for what it is. If you want it, you’ll have to customize it this year.
Maybe there’s a chance Nike Basketball changes their mind later in the season, perhaps again on the “Post Season” edition of the LeBron X shoe. You can beg for a “Tiffany” themed teal box, enclosing a flashy diamond inside. It might make sense, for the right occasion. It’s just not destiny at the current moment but sneakerheads can certainly hope for another surprise announcement. It’s not in the cards right now.
